Are Guest Requests Good?

, , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Every couple wants their guests to get involved in their wedding reception. Nothing is worse than seeing everyone sat at tables and looking bored. Getting them up on the dance floor is great, and can be the perfect way to celebrate your marriage.

Of course, when your guests get involve, they might want to make their own song requests. Whether it’s their chart hit favorite, a cheesy wedding reception standard, or something obscure, it might not be the song you want to hear on your wedding day. However, it could be one of your old favorites that you’d forgotten about.

So how do you handle guest song requests? There are a variety of ways, and a great DJ can work with you to figure out what’s right for your wedding day. Whether it’s a no play list, a time later in the reception set aside for requests, song guidelines for requests, or running requests by you before they’re played, we can make song requests work for you.

If you’re planning a wedding in Michigan, we can help create the perfect entertainment for your wedding day, whether that includes requests or not! Get in touch today to find out more about what we do.

Wedding DJ Myths

, , , , , , ,

Without great entertainment, a wedding reception can be a bit dull. Having a wedding DJ can be a great choice, and can be a way to get your guests dancing and really enjoying themselves. However, there are plenty of myths about wedding DJs. Here, we take a look at a couple of them and offer the truth.

Myth #1: A DJ will determine the entire playlist

Truth: A good DJ will work with you to find out what types of music you like. This includes genres as well as specific artists and songs.

Myth #2: You will determine the entire playlist

Truth: A good DJ will use your preferences and the mood of the room to decide what song to play and when. This makes the music much more interactive than working from a set playlist.

Myth #3: A DJ will talk through the reception

Truth: A good DJ will only talk when it’s necessary, such as to make announcements. This keeps the focus on the music, which is what everyone wants to hear!

Entertainment at Small Weddings

, , , , , , , , ,

Small weddings are a big trend. Even big name celebrities like Keira Knightley are opting for intimate weddings. A small wedding has its own particular entertainment requirements, though.

Small Wedding Entertainment

Many couples opt for a smaller wedding so that they can reduce the stress — and cost — of their big day. However, this doesn’t mean that you can skimp on elements like entertainment. Whether you have 25 guests or 250 guests, you can’t just plug an iPod into some speakers and hope for the best.

A good wedding DJ is responsive to the crowd, whatever the size. This means that they can get the party going, and know when it’s time to throw in a slow song. This can be even more important for small weddings. With fewer guests, the atmosphere can be much more fluid. (If half of a big wedding are sitting a song out, it’s a lot less noticeable than when half a small wedding sit one out!)

Capturing Your First Dance

, , , , , , ,

Your first dance as husband and wife is one of the most special moments of your wedding reception. You’ll want to ensure that it’s captured properly so you can remember it for years to come.

When you choose a wedding photographer, be sure to check out their shots of other couples dancing. Do the pictures look blurred with the action? Do the couples get lost in any dance floor lighting?

The best photographers are prepared for any type of dance, on any type of dance floor, and can capture it perfectly. If there’s a big height difference between you and your fiance, it’s also worth keeping an eye out for any angles a photographer seems to favor, in case it won’t work for you as a couple.

Another big part of capturing your first dance is the song you choose to dance to. Your choice of first dance song is a very personal decision, and one that need to be made by you as a couple. Finding the perfect song is often about remembering your special moments as a couple, and choosing something you both really like.

Whatever the song, JD Entertainment can help you have the perfect first dance for your Michigan wedding. Give us a call to find out about all the great services we offer!

Melissa Gilbert and Timothy Busfield Married

, , , , ,

As stars of television classics, Melissa Gilbert and Timothy Busfield are no stranger to being the center of attention. However, this week it was because the pair were married in an intimate California ceremony.

The two chose a Wednesday wedding at the San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara. Although many of their wedding details haven’t been made public, we do know that Melissa wore a stunning red dress.

She told People magazine that she loved the color and what it stood for. She said it symbolized passion, fire, and love, and was the perfect choice for their wedding. It also looked beautiful next to Timothy’s traditional tuxedo.

The wedding was the third marriage for both, and the couple have been engaged since the holidays. The pair had known each other for close to 20 years, and their wedding is said to have captured a sense of romance.

If you’re looking for your own romantic wedding here in Michigan, get in touch with us to find out what we can offer.

How To Include Children At Second Wedding

It’s no surprise that second weddings often bring children..and step-children into the mix. Sometimes a child can feel left out or that they’re losing a parent.

Why not prove to them that they’re just as much a part of this new union as ever before by following a few simple steps:

Choose a memorable song and dance with them – Most children love to dance with a parent.  When you take the time to make them feel special with your own song and dance, they’ll feel ever so close to you and that they’re still just as important.

Let them show off – Children love it when their parents are proud of them.  Why not ask them to sing a song that reminds them of you?

Serve fun, child friendly food – We all love cake at a wedding but why not also serve a special cake just for your kids?  Topped with fun things like gummy bears and chocolate kisses they can cut their own cake (with you of course) right after you cut yours as a couple.

Parents who include their children in a wedding are to be commended.  They’ve taken the time to truly help their children make the transition into their new family dynamic.

What have you done to make children feel special at a wedding?  We’d love to hear it.  Do you need help doing something memorable at your own wedding?  Give us a call and let’s chat.

Dear John,

My wedding is in four months and I’m dying to find a wedding company in Clinton Township who can offer entertainment and wedding photography at a reasonable price?  Can you help me please? – Deanne

Dear Deanne,

We feel your pain.  Hiring a wedding entertainment company is tough work when everyone says that they’re the best.

JD-entertainment-referencesTo help, we’ve included 10 questions to ask an entertainment company when interviewing them:

  1. Do you have my date open?
  2. Have you done events at my ceremony and/or reception location before? If not, are you familiar with them?
  3. How long have you been a wedding DJ in the area?
  4. How many weddings have you done? How many do you do in an average weekend?
  5. What sets you apart from your competition?
  6. Are there any other services that you provide, such as lighting design, videography or photography?
  7. How far in advance do I need to secure your services?
  8. Can you provide me with 3–4 recent brides that I can contact for references?
  9. What are your rates?
  10. What happens if my wedding goes overtime?  How are we charged?
